Abstract

The increase of global competition has forced the companies to make a transition from the routine mode of operation to a creative mode of production. This qualitative changes together with the dominant situation and the type of active industries in each country required reorganization of engineering education. The aim of this article is to determine the requirements of engineering education to meet the needs of Iranian industries. For this purpose a survey method is used and a population includes 30 distinguished Iranian engineers are interviewed. The specified role and importance relation of industry and engineering education, then the data collected from semi-structured interviews with the above engineers through the coding and categorize techniques are analyzed. Results indicate that for solving the difficulties and problems between engineering education system and industries, continuous interaction and relation between university, industry, and government should be improved through; using a variety of channels as training, research, consultancy, and mutual conferences. Moreover technical knowledge and specialization, ability in the field of design and ability of implementation, problem solving, team working, communication, creativity and innovation, lifelong learning, engineering ethics, and having adequate motivation are very important for engineers and their professional success. Finally in order that the system of engineering education be met the present and future needs of the industry's requirements, more collaboration and interaction with industry, integration of theory and practice in engineering education, more flexibility, more focuses on the industries needs should be considered. Also development of advanced educational plan, continuous reform and improvement of engineering education programs, and the system of student admission are the other issues that must be considered for the future of engineering education
