Abstract

The evaluation and rankings of world’s universities in recent years have drawn the attention of higher education researchers and authorities. One of the consequences of these rankings is the appearance of world class universities concept. With their particular characteristics, these types of universities that are listed at the top of world rankings are considered as having the best scientific and research outputs. For this reason, many universities are after modeling their universities to achieve the status and characteristics of such institutions. This article evaluates conceptual dimensions of world class universities and describes rankings’ methodologies and characteristics of these universities
