The aim of this article is to determine the necessities for codifying strategies of engineering education in Iran. For this purpose, a survey method is used. The population in this research included industry managers and faculty members: thirty-two managers and forty faculty members as sample participated in research. The instrument for data collection of research was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by suitable statistical indexes. The results indicated that reform of engineering education inIranis necessary. Therefore, students lack of confidence in occupational future, and social and economic difficulties are the most important challenges of engineering education. In order to encounter these challenges the engineering education should be harmonized with scientific needs and global education, as well as being entrepreneur and applied. In addition, for accountability of engineering curricula in relation to new needs and situations, practical courses such as project, laboratories, and workshops; computer-aided courses; and English language courses should be emphasized. Finally, courses of engineering ethics, environment and energy, and introduction to engineering should be obligatory in engineering curricula in order to increase the responsibility of students, and their participation in sustainable development, as well as better perception of engineering profession.

According to the rapid development in science and technology, our society requires well educated experts and this is of high importance for the society as fundamental needs which help it to become more powerful and independent. In this regard, governments can make progress applying suitable comprehensive plan, educating young talents and employing optimal tools and existing facilities. Due to the importance of specialization in engineering, which is necessary to have an industrialized country this article tries to investigate the priorities and importance of common engineering in Iran in order to help the government find society needs, overcome the challenges of education system and efficient use of available resources. For this aim, several criteria must be considered simultaneously including society requirements, injection and human resource shortage in different parts, according to the potentials of existing facilities, etc. To consider all criteria, we use hierarchical analysis process and based on the opinions collected of faculty members and experts we analyzed these criteria and with high accuracy, compared each of engineering priorities in Iran and finally determined the priority in this branch

Nowadays, higher education institutes and engineering organizations have achieved this important matter that they can maintain their initiative and advantages in long term competition by innovation and its development and extension. Both factors including rapid changing technology and intense competition have the key role in considering the increasingly innovation in industries. In this research, we tried to identify some essential barriers of development and exploitation of innovation by referring to the Iran managers and inventors community. This is an applied research and an objectively survey. To analyze the data, we used Friedman Test. The results showed that instability of supportive rules and regulations, and insufficient funds are the most important barriers of development and exploitation of innovation from managers and inventors point of view so that the inventors and managers respectively mentioned financial resources and matters relating to training as the most important barrier.

At present, universities and higher education institutions have important role in achieving sustainable development and education of intelligent and mindful citizens. Given the role and importance, it is vital to assess their curricula quality from different perspectives. Thus, in this research and based on students viewpoints, quality and position of curricula elements (goals, content, scientific literacy and teaching methods, timetable, educational equipments and evaluation procedures) were analyzed. The total population include all of the engineering students in Kashan University in the academic year 1390-91. By using random sampling method, sample group (231) students were selected. The data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire. To analyze the data, appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics were used. The results indicate that from the view of students, quality of instruction and curricula courses in engineering faculty was about average and therefore they need considerable changes.

The engineering drawing 2 is one of the basic courses for mechanical engineering students. Based on the fact that this course is pre-requisite of design course, the students have to be familiar with all kind of drawings needed in design and industry. In addition, they need to know the method of drawing according to the latest common technology in country. Unfortunately the method of teaching in Iran’s universities has not been replaced by with computer and multimedia base technology. The teaching method has been changed according to engineering software and multimedia base technology in Engineering Graphics Center of Sharif University of Technology by the author since 1387. In this paper the result of applying this modern teaching method based on testing and evaluation of students has been evaluated and compared to the traditional method of teaching. As a result, this method has no negative effect on learning drawing principles and increases the ability of understanding the drawing method based on using modern modeling software.

Nowadays, we need collaboration and consultation with one another. In research and production of scientific works, we are dependent on the team-working more than ever. In other words, there are proximity relationship between collaboration and production of science. Advancements in science and technology are no longer confined to the scientific advancement of individual nations; and indeed, the focus of many scientific journals is on collaboration and co-authorship, both of which are currently on an upward trend. Interaction among scholars in the scientific fields has been a necessity for a long time. Most of the research process stages are related to the communication activities such as dialogue with other experts, writing and reading articles and letters. The purpose of this study is to examine scientific products trend and, particularly, to investigate co-authorship among the Iranian researches in the field of engineering during 1990 - 2010. The benefit of this type of research is to detect writing patterns in scientific products and determine amount of collaboration and intercommunity among field of engineering researchers. Results suggest that proportion of production with one author is declining and the share of production with the pattern of two and three authors rose during 1990-2010 steadily. Findings shows 92% of productions were co-authored and only 8% of them were single authored publications. In addition, based on the results of data analysis, for most years, the percentage of international co-authorship is less than internal co-authorship, except in 1992 and 1994 which were more. The findings also show that 47 journal titles published more than 100 co-authorship papers in the engineering field and the impact factors of the journals publishing the co-authorship papers has been fluctuating between zero and 13 and most journal titles have a very low impact factor and only 7 titles have relatively good impact factor

The main purpose of this research is the feasibility study of faculty members’ performance appraisal of engineering majors in Shiraz University based on 2+2 performance appraisal model from their viewpoints. The population was all of the faculty members of engineering majors in Shiraz University in the academic year of 1389-90. Ninety faculties were selected as the sample by cluster sampling method. The research instrument was made by the researcher based on the characteristics of 2+2 performance appraisal model, which was distributed among the sample after the calculation of its validity and reliability. The results of the research showed the average attitudes of the faculty members about the usability of 2+2 performance appraisal model in Shiraz University. In addition, the results indicate that there is a significant difference between the faculties’ viewpoints about the usability of this model based on their degrees and service years; but there isn’t any significant differences between their viewpoints based on their different engineering majors.

Of the most outstanding master pieces of science and technology of Iran from old ages to the present are the water clocks by Abol ezz-Ibn Al-Jazzari. He lived in the 11th century AD. and his remaining works are proofs of his high levels of capability in different sciences such as mechanical engineering, fluid mechanics, robotics and mechanism design. Amongst his works, water pumps, pump turbines, water clocks, robotic clocks, and fountains are the most outstanding. Since these works were no research work nor any reconstruction or research activity has been performed on them, so the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST) through his mechanical engineering research center embarked upon their revitalization in the form of a research project. Of these master pieces of design and technology, two were selected as the main subjects of a work for a research project titled "Revitalization of innovations and inventions of the Iranian scientists through the history". These two were namely, Peacock Water Clock and Dragon Water Clock. As a part of this work, the two clocks were carefully redesigned and reconstructed, and both tested according to Al- Jazari's book on design and manufacture of his ingenious designs. The article consists of a short introduction of the scientist; Al- Jazari and then the details of designs, manufacture and testing of the clocks. The results of tests are discussed in brief.
