Over the past two decades, there has been a significant reduction in the number of students choosing mathematics-physics major in high schools and, as a result, the number of applicants in the mathematics-physics major of the national university entrance exam has been reduced. This trend has led to a decrease in engineering applicants and a drop in their quality of academic level. Elite high school students do not show much desire to choose mathematics-physics major in high schools due to the numerous employment opportunities of graduates of experimental science major, especially medicine. This, in addition to reducing the number of applicants entering mathematics-physics major, but also has declined the quality of science of applicants entering engineering fields. The Society of Engineering Education of Iran organized a roundtable to investigate the reasons for this situation, and the material that I presented in this roundtable will be discussed in this article.<br /><br />  داوطلبان ورود به رشته‌های مهندسی، علوم ریاضی و فیزیک دانشگاه‌ها از میان فارغ التحصیلان رشته ریاضی_ فیزیک دبیرستان‌ها است. در طول دو دهه گذشته کاهش چشمگیری در تعداد دانش آموزان انتخاب‌کنندگان رشته ریاضی_ فیزیک در دبیرستان‌ها و در نتیجه تعداد داوطلبان رشته ریاضی فیزیک آزمون سراسری دانشگاه‌ها بوجود آمده است. این روند به کاهش داوطلبان رشته‌های مهندسی و افت سطح علمی آنها منجر شده است. دانش آموزان نخبه دبیرستان‌ها به دلیل براهم بودن زمینه‌های اشتغال فارغ التحصیلان رشته‌های علوم تجربی بخصوص رشته‌های پزشکی تمایل چندانی برای انتخاب رشته ریاضی_ فیزیک در دبیرستان‌ها نشان نمی‌دهند و این امر علاوه بر کاهش تعداد داوطلبان ورود به رشته ریاضی_ فیزیک بلکه سطح علمی داوطلبان ورود به رشته‌های مهندسی را نیز پایین آورده است. انجمن آموزش مهندسی ایران میزگردی برای بررسی دلایل پیش آمدن این وضعیت ترتیب داد و مطالبی که اینجانب در این میز گرد ارائه کردم در این مقاله مطرح می‌شود https://ijee.ias.ac.ir/article_121920_3dcc27f50d78f110205accd3c10b4938.pdf
