Abstract
The aim of this research is to identify the dimensions of learning tasks in relation to the academic self-concept and academic achievement of mechanical engineering students from the perspective of experts. This study employs a mixed-methods approach and a survey design using the Delphi method. Drawing on theoretical and network (snowball) sampling, the study examines the views of experts in mechanical engineering education in Tehran during the 2024–2025 academic year. Theoretical sampling was used to select the initial Delphi group member, while network sampling was employed to select the remaining members. The sample consists of 25 experts in mechanical engineering education from universities in Tehran. The measurement tools included unstructured and semi-structured interviews and a two-stage researcher-developed questionnaire. Data were analyzed using open coding, axial coding, and Q-factor analysis. The findings identified seven key dimensions of learning tasks that, from the experts’ perspective, are associated with strengthening academic self-concept and enhancing the academic achievement of mechanical engineering students. The results can be used to design learning tasks tailored to the characteristics of mechanical engineering students and to improve the quality of education in this field.
