Abstract

This paper is a report on the research areas of mechanical engineering professors at the top universities of Iran and the world. Although there is a close correlation between academic achievement and progress of science, there is little direct knowledge of the technology that goes into it. It seems that knowing these areas can help researchers to choose their themes with greater awareness and use the results of the research groups at these universities. In order to achieve this goal, based on the classification presented in the Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) in 1390 Shamsi (2001), the Iran's top eight universities are determined and based on the classification presented in the QS world university ranking, the world's top eight universities in mechanical engineering in 2012 A.D., are selected. Finally, after searching each university website and reviewing the information of 758 professors in general, research topics of 595 faculty of mechanical engineering department are extracted, classified and compared.
