Abstract
This article introduces a comprehensive approach to mechanical engineering education in which the core courses at undergraduate level are integrated in a sequential setting with a systematic vision. The paradigm exposes students to general problem solving approach instead of trying to find specific solution procedure to specific problems. As a result the student begins to realize connections between what are often perceived as apparently unrelated topics and will be provided with a common consistent problem solving approach for all courses. This approach has recently been used in several American universities, and in general the response to the new curriculum has been very positive. Implementing the new paradigm in revising the mechanical engineering curriculum of Iranian universities that follow a centralized policy in their academic program demands serious and thoughtful study on the part of specialists in the field.
