Abstract

Design of control systems of various types has a long history and dates back to antiquity. However, the industrial revolution and the emergence of complex and new technologies further necessitated the use of control systems. Nowadays, control systems have an indisputable role in providing comfort, safety, and security in our everyday life and is key to many green technologies. This paper briefly reviews the present status of the control system analysis and design methodologies and presents a general overview of the future directions in control. This is achieved by introducing the seminal achievements of the last century and highlighting the present position in theoretical and applied feats. Finally, future theoretical and applications trends will be concisely addressed.
