Abstract
 The article first explains the important terminologies related for engineering: Engineer, engineering, profession, technology and ultimately present the relationship of these items with engineering. In addition the names of some engineers from Iran and other countries who have profound contributions with engineering are presented. At the end the list of 14 important challenges which the engineers are faced in 21 century are explained.
